Kanye’s newly leaked song “Robocop” from his now epically anticipated album 808’s and Heartbreaks is either of confusion or amusement or maybe both. What is for certain is that Kanye refuses to follow a normal template for the construction of his new album and is proving it with every new song released. “Robocop” steals its name from the late 80s Cyberpunk cult classic film of the same name. Kanye uses the word as a tongue and cheek reference to a prying significant other. The beat comes equipped with robot sound effects, synthesizer stabs and of course auto tune vocals. The track is welcomed as a bit more lighthearted then we’ve been hearing from Kanye lately.
With the mood set by Lower East Side’s East Houston Hotel in New York, 3sixteen present their 2008 holiday collection. The sophistication and the modernity of the hotel offers its own commentary on 3sixteen as a brand with the selection of looks here a far-cry from the earlier offerings of the brand. With maturity happening so quickly, the brand maintains a sense of organic growth. Their new direction doesn’t outstep nor proclaim anything their not as their collection features ripstop cotton utility shirts, heavyweight fleece field jackets and melton wool bombers. Last week, I brought you news and images of Nooka’s collaboration with Hellz Bellz. Today we bring you their newest effort, the Glow In The Dark Watch which is a re-worked version of their popular Zub watch. The watch offers more than just a unique look and color but also a very abstract way of telling time which uses flashing LED bars to denote the time. Originally these watches were limited to 15 pieces and were only offered as gifts to Kanye West and crew in celebration of the completion of their latest tour; that is until now. 500 were made but Citizen have only a few stock left of these watches and are being offered for $150. To say this Toronto mc is talented is a gross understatement. Currently staring on the HIT television show Degrassi (which airs on MTV the-N, BBC London, and others), Drake has been writing songs since he was ten years old; penning lyrics for many up and coming R&B singers. He has worked with Cash Money Records, TVT Records, BMG, and has featured on tracks for producers Mike City, Neek Rusher, Saukrates, and Brian Cox. Much of his musical influence comes from his family, which includes funk creator Larry Graham (Graham Central Station) who’s hit song “One In A Million” became a top 10 hit, and Mabon ‘Teenie’ Hodges who, alongside Willie Mitchell, was the soulful mastermind behind the majority of Al Green’s hits. Having roots in America’s deep south, this mc has the potential to have international success and is believed to be the next big thing out of Canada.
